I understand concern about hospital capacity more than a lot of other concerns, but at the same time I think insofar as it’s a real concern masks aren’t gonna make a ton of difference

It’s one thing to say that masks, when worn, reduce spread by some degree; it’s a whole other thing to claim that they make any significant epidemiological dent, the evidence for which I think is extraordinarily lacking. That’s what matters from a hosp capacity standpoint.

I think I need @WilliamBHoenig @RidleyDM @adambravomusic to understand that I’m definitely not going to agree with them on the futility of NPI until we’re clearly on the other side of Delta surge

Or ANY surge that fills the hospitals to such degree that postpone surgeries and any other medical care. I am slightly annoyed we need to even discuss this. Damn...do you think medical personnel OWES us to deal with this crap while we dine in restaurants?!

Then call for restaurants to be closed Not just a statement to you, but to everyone calling for masks as if that’s the be-all-end-all

They will be closed :) Schools will also be closed. In many many places. Like it or not. No one needs to call them to close...too much spread=the end of this convo

My high school was open the entire year last year (save for 3 weeks in December) with no vaccines at all. My school is well over 97% vaccinated now. Even with delta, no way do we close this year.

I’m just hopeful our elementary school and daycare can make it without outbreaks… fortunately it looks like we peaked locally last week, maybe we can make it to boosters (which everyone here will race to get)

And the U12 vaccines, which will help both by reducing bad medical outcomes in kids and by calming parents down.

Pfizer’s spokespeople seem to be adamant that the end of September timeline is still on, even after the trial expansion. For example, look at this NPR article from days ago. npr.org/sections/health-shot…

I assume “recently” means after the trials were expanded 3 weeks ago. I do recall the NYT article about the trial expansion being updated with a statement from Pfizer in which they said they had no updates on the timeline.

I can't imagine that third doses for adults will go over well while we are still waiting indeterminately for kids to get first doses.

Ehhhh, I don’t really see it. Only the very high-risk/HCWs will be 8 months out in September. Maybe it does slightly speed up the timeline from results from Pfizer to FDA EUA though.
