Pretty wild to see people imply there's going to be a "next time" for climate legislation. I mean, sure, you can technically pass a climate bill whenever. 2100, even. But I think the nature of the problem has eluded you.

"NYC DSA's ecosocialist working group just effectively shut down a fracked gas plant" is a great answer to "why should i join DSA?"

I think so far we've said goodbye to paid family leave, tuition-free community college, meaningful climate provisions, expanded Medicare eligibility + vision/hearing/dental, prescription drug price controls, universal non-means-tested child care + tax credit, a billionaire tax...

The Democrats continuously prove that if you care about the health and well-being of people who aren’t rich, there is little point in voting. The poor, the ill, the disabled, the birthing, the birthed—basically anyone who isn’t rich—is going to get hosed.
🚨 Senate Democrats have decided to drop paid family and medical leave, a key cornerstone of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, from their mammoth social spending package Wednesday after attempts to drastically pare it down were deemed insufficient, three sources tell me.

The lesson for future electoral work is that party discipline is *always* more important than a seated majority. If winning a majority means a caucus of defectors your majority will be worthless and brief.
Absolutely fair to say that Joe Manchin singlehandedly just killed Democrats best hope of passing paid leave in the United States. The United States is the only country in the industrialized world that does not offer some kind of paid leave mandate.

A disciplined minority can derail a majority and activate its base. An undisciplined majority will project weakness and demoralize activists and voters alike. Investing in "moderate" turncoats is more damaging to the cause in the long game than their seats are worth.

It’s not just that they don’t want to give a small fraction of their considerable wealth. It’s that their considerable wealth is dependent on large portions of the globe being destitute and hungry.
A small group of ultra-wealthy individuals could help solve world hunger with just a fraction of their net worth, says the director of the United Nations' World Food Program. Billionaires need to "step up now, on a one-time basis," David Beasley said. cnn.it/3Ckbci7

People think "Abolish the Senate" sounds too radical, but I happen to think "a 50% decline in food yields" and "one billion climate refugees" sounds pretty radical, so who's to say?

Even though Dems are lining up to endorse India Walton, I’m told Byron Brown was never removed from VAN after he lost the Dem primary. Meanwhile, some DSA candidates are denied VAN access because they aren’t “Dems” in the general. This is the establishment we’re up against.

The Democratic Party so often sounds incoherent because it is constantly pretending it can both enrich its corporate donors and fix the problems created by those corporate donors.

Good primer on one of the most important things happening in the US labor movement right now
NEW: The fight to unionize Amazon and win a fair contract for UPS workers hinges on this election you probably haven’t heard of. The @Teamsters will elect new leadership for the first time in over two decades. The winner could determine the future of worker power in America.
