There is zero value assigned by officials like this to the serious mental and psychological costs -- sure to be enduring -- of constantly isolating and distancing and shunning neighbors. COVID risks should be weighed *against* the costs of what's being decreed in its name. Watch:

Last April, when we were told that lockdowns and isolation would be needed for weeks or a couple months to "flatten the curve" -- remember that? -- two mental health experts told me the costs would be severe. It's now 15 months later: theintercept.com/2020/04/15/…

The psychological effects on GG appear to have been extreme, but is there data on the effects of pandemic isolation in the population, separated from the effects of frighteningly high rates of disease and deaths.

I've been very lucky. I've been able to work from home, leave the city, be with my husband and kids and friends and dogs. The burden falls on people who are stuck in small places, lost their jobs, live alone, etc. They're not heard much from in elite discourse so it's ignored.
