There is zero value assigned by officials like this to the serious mental and psychological costs -- sure to be enduring -- of constantly isolating and distancing and shunning neighbors. COVID risks should be weighed *against* the costs of what's being decreed in its name. Watch:
Shut up and do as you are told little peasant.

Last April, when we were told that lockdowns and isolation would be needed for weeks or a couple months to "flatten the curve" -- remember that? -- two mental health experts told me the costs would be severe. It's now 15 months later: theintercept.com/2020/04/15/…

Here's a NYT article from earlier this month describing how the mental health harms from prolonged isolation and distancing during COVID are enduring even as restrictions ease. Other research shows skyrocketing rates of depression/anxiety/addiction, etc: nytimes.com/2021/07/08/healt…

Before this week, there were ZERO Covid deaths in all of Australia this year, Glenn. Now five dead this week. I think lockdowns have far less effect on mental health than thousands of deaths as in the US and Brazil.

At least their neighbors will be alive to talk to after lockdown. That’s the point.

It’s asinine. It doesn’t even achieve the compliance they seek because it is so unnatural. Tell people the risks (if you don’t think they know them already) and let them decide.

we should call covid restrictions, lockdowns by their right name: Gov't sanctioned physical, emotional, mental, and financial abuse. For teenagers, they're literally torture. You can't justify these 'costs' by saying 'safety." Tell me I'm wrong. #cdnpoli #uspoli #DeltaVariant
