Just blew someone's mind by tell them that wikipedia is a better source of information than google. Information literacy efforts ongoing.

A lot of us Millennials were taught info literacy in the early days of Wikipedia, so I think there's some reflexive suspicion of it as a source, even though it has obviously evolved

That's exactly the case here. Back then they were comparing Wikipedia to established reference works. Now we're comparing it to google and boy, howdy, is wikipedia better than a google search. (although still not perfect, of course!)

i always told my students that wikipedia is a good starting point to help focus deeper research and sometimes can point you to good sources if you check the citations

according to my sister, some of the science wiki pages are *excellent* resources bc scientists actually make use of it as a place to post open source data and whatnot
