A breakdown of what’s happening in #ElEstor, where Indigenous Q’eqchi’ communities defending their lands and rights from Swiss-owned illegal mining projects are being met with violence from the Guatemalan state and police 👇👇👇 ¡@DrGiammattei te estamos viendo!
For over three weeks, the Q’eqchi’ community of #ElEstor in the Izabal department of #Guatemala has been protesting illegal mining projects owned by Solway Group, a Swiss company, on their lands. The Guatemalan state has responded with violence and a state of siege. A thread 🧵

BREAKING: After 100 pages of legal briefing, the appellate court today denied my release in 10 words. This is not due process of law. Nor is it justice. I must report to prison by tomorrow afternoon. We will get through this.💪❤️

As a Salvadoran, my historical memory-driven anxiety keeps frantically telling me is that this is how a State creates, feeds, and promotes a culture that graduates lone fascist vigilantes into sponsored extra-judicial bodies like death squads.
The judge in Kyle Rittenhouse's trial says lawyers cannot call the 2 people he killed "victims." Rittenhouse killed 2 people and wounded another with an AR-15 style weapon. The judge says "victim" is too "loaded" but will let lawyers call them "rioters, looters or arsonists."

Calling it “a Native American dance” is the kind of racism folks like this teacher internalize then emulate, and claiming she was “mimicking” it is laughable. @CNN can you name what dance it is? That’s what I thought—no—because math teacher Karen just made it up.
